Children Oral Health

 Child dentist in bangalore

Cavities also called caries or tooth decay are one of the world's most common chronic child diseases. Children with poor oral health often miss more school and receive lower grades than other children.

  • About 1 out of 5 children 5 to 11 years old have at least one untreated decayed tooth.
  • 1 in 7 adolescents between the ages of 12 and 19 have at least one untreated decayed tooth.
  • Children from low-income families aged 5 to 19 are twice as likely to have cavities compared to those from higher-income households.
The good news is that it's preventable cavities. Fluoride varnish in baby teeth can avoid about one-third of cavities. Kids living in fluoridated drinking water households have less cavities compared with children whose water is not fluoridated. Likewise, kids who brush with fluoride toothpaste everyday should have less cavities.

What Parents can do
  • Wipe the gums twice a day after the first feeding with a soft, clean cloth in the morning and wipe away bacteria and sugars right before bed that can cause cavities.
  • Start brushing twice a day when teeth come in with a soft, pinched toothbrush and plain water.
  • Visit your baby's first birthday dentist to spot signs of issues early on.

  • Brush the teets with fluoride toothpaste twice a day.
  • Drink water from the tap which contains fluoride.
  • Tell the dentist for your child to apply dental sealants when appropriate.
If your child is under 6, watch brush them. Make sure that they use a pea-sized amount of toothpaste, then spit it out instead of swallowing. Aid brush your child until they have good brushing skills.
