Prosthodontics is one of the branches of dentistry that deals with the replacement of missing teeth and the related soft and hard tissues with prostheses that can be fixed or removed, or that can be protected and maintained by implants.

A prosthodontist is a professional surgeon who works with braces, dentures, or prostheses to repair missing teeth and associated mouth or jaw structures.

Fixed Prosthodontics

Fixed Prosthodontics is the branch of prosthodontics that uses crowns, braces, onlays, inlays, and veneers to repair teeth. Each of the above mentioned restorations are made by the Prosthodontist in the dental laboratory on an image of the mouth.

The Prosthodontist prepares the tooth / teeth and provides an indication to catch this preparation and is then sent to the laboratory along with a thorough prescription.

The dental technician then makes as prescribed the necessary restoration. Afterwards the final product is cemented in the mouth using various cements.

Crown
It is generally referred to as a 'cap' and covers most or the whole tooth. Based on the criteria such as function / aesthetics, patient preference and the condition of the tooth, various materials may be used to produce the Crown.

Bridge
It is a dental reconstruction that is used to fill a 'gap' due to missing dentures. Hanging the bridge is accomplished using the adjacent tooth / teeth. Depending on the size of the distance, aesthetics and purpose, different designs and materials are used for bridge fabrication.

Removable Prosthodontics

Removable prosthodontics includes prothesis that removes soft tissues and teeth, and is more generally referred to as dentures.

It may replace all the missing teeth, or some of the teeth can be replaced. They may either replace the upper or lower arch, or both. We can be made entirely from plastic or a mixture of metal and plastic.

Maxillofacial Prosthodontics

Maxillofacial Prosthodontics deals with the rehabilitation of patients with congenital or acquired mouth or face defects. Congenital defects appear to be linked to lip and palate cleft.

Dental Implants

It is a replacement for a tooth's root and is generally shaped like a screw or cylinder. A successful implant provides a secure and rigid foundation for the bridge, denture, or maxillofacial prosthesis maintenance or support.
