A clear path to a winning smile: Invisible Braces
Straight teeth and a revitalized smile can no longer need to come from a mouth full of wire and bracket braces that are unattractive. Invisible braces provide an esthetic and barely visible alterative bracket braces to boost self-esteem and physical confidence.
Although invisible braces may not be sufficient for some cases of misalignment or complicated bite issues that conventional orthodontics handle better, invisible braces may be used to treat the following conditions.
- Overbite and over
- Crooked teeth
- Teeth which are crowded or widely spaced
For adults and older teens, invisible braces are intended but are not recommended if baby teeth remain. Traditional metal braces with brackets/wires on the front of the teeth would be needed for children and younger adolescents faced with orthodontic problems.
Types
Ceramic brackets, inside braces and transparent aligners are common forms of invisible braces. Ceramic braces are much like metal braces, except that to straighten teeth, they use tooth-colored brackets rather than metal.
The tooth-colored ceramic blends with your teeth, usually non-staining, making them less conspicuous than metal, but not as invisible as inside braces or clear alignments. Within braces, also referred to as inside invisible braces, go a step further with lingual braces and simple aligners, making care practically invisible. Each alternative has its benefits and drawbacks.
- Clear Braces - Clear braces are made of weaker and more delicate composite materials than their metal counterparts. In order to secure them to the arch wire, ceramic brackets are larger than metal brackets and require small rubber bands, or ligatures. They can stain, because the ligatures are white or clear. Staining, however, is not a major issue because ligatures are altered every time you get an adjustment.
- Inside Braces - On the back of the teeth, inside braces are attached so that they are concealed from view. To produce special, computer-designed custom brackets that are attached to the insides of the upper and often lower teeth, current iBraces use scanned images of the insides of the teeth. This makes them attractive to individuals who are often in public and may feel self-conscious about wearing transparent aligners or braces on the front of their teeth with metal or ceramic brackets/wires. Although simple, reversible alignments may be misplaced or lost, iBraces are fixed and not removable, thus delaying care. To help hasten treatment, elastics may be used with iBraces. For transparent aligners, such elastics are available for use but are more difficult to use.
- Clear Aligner - Clear aligners are a set of clear, removable aligners custom-fit to your teeth to provide care with minimal adjustment pain that is practically irritation-free. Clear alignments are almost invisible, minimally invasive and wear-resistant to clouding. There are no brackets to come off or wires to snap and poke with simple aligners. For food, drinking and special occasions, transparent aligners can be removed, making it easy to brush and floss.
Treatment Length
The length of care depends on the condition and the sort of braces you are wearing that are invisible. Usually, braces are worn from 18 to 24 months, but they are worn longer occasionally.
As they are made from the finest materials, metal braces perform the best. Though solid and better looking, ceramic braces also take more time because they are not as strong as metal braces. It may also take more time for the inside braces to work effectively.
